Kindergarten Curriculum
The learning environment of the Cedar Hills Co-op Kindergarten invites the children to participate in concrete experiences that help them learn concepts and develop academic skills while encouraging curiosity and exploration. Reading, writing, math, science, movement, art, music, drama, listening and speaking are interwoven in a curriculum designed to be intriguing and responsive to five and six year old children.

The daily routine includes time for:
- Group singing, signing, discussion, planning and reflection
- Individual and small group choices that include creating, dramatizing, block building, woodworking, bookmaking, cooking, planting and experimenting
- Enjoying a variety of fiction and nonfiction books individually, in small groups and in a large group
- Developing reading skills including phonics (sound/symbol relationship) and phonemic awareness (ability to isolate the sounds of oral language)
- Practicing drawing, which involves recording ideas on paper and writing, which involves encoding the sounds the children hear in words.
- Engaging in math skills including matching, measuring, graphing, classifying, patterning, counting, comparing, estimating, recognizing and writing numerals, and ordering.
- Playing outdoors on swings, climbing structure, and grassy lawn
- Sharing items of interest brought from home
- The class provides ample time, space, supervision and materials so that each child may enjoy success appropriate to his/her individual stage of development.!
